The German electronic artist Robert Schroeder is quite well known for his musical alternation and flexibility, but the results of his new album brainCHIPS might exceed each expectation of the connoisseurs who collect and enjoy his works. At first you can hear the finest of electronic music developed further by Schroeder in his unique-style, but the new album is not only "instrumental" but also features the unique vocal talents of a special class provided by the singer Rahal Brimil.
The Moroccan Rahal Brimil (born 1963) was inspired by the new compositions of Schroeder - and Robert was inspired from the unusual and unorthodox voice and style of the singer. The speciality of Rahal is that he sings multilingually and connects this within each track he sings on in English, Arabic, French, Italian and Spanish. Rahal's voice is unusual and pleasantly very concise, which is related to his in-comparable voice-characteristics and the abilities on how he uses his voice. And so he perfectly matches the outstandingly ingenious tracks on brainCHIPS.
On 5 of the 12 tracks, the singer enriches brainCHIPS with creamy self-willed melodies and text lines. The music and the singing play conciously against each other and other times entwine and flow seamlessly together. Other tracks are rhythmic as well as being relaxed and atmospheric.
You could call the music on brainCHIPS as being "electronic trip-hop". The 12 tracks are all very different from one another and range from being spheric/dreamy and strong rhythmic tracks with electric guitar. All the titles are co-ordinated in such a way, you will only hear the optimum effect if you listen to the CD through headphones, adding certain special effects cause interesting sounds to become audible, which you can only hear over loudspeakers if you increase the volume, sometimes you hear these effects and sometimes barely at all.
The CD brainCHIPS by Robert Schroeder packs in journey of sound experiences within 74 minutes in length, which offers the listener sensations of tension, surprise, alternations and outstanding atmospherics. And when the 74 minutes is at an end, you may wish to restart the CD and play it again by simply turning on the repeat CD function on your remote control or stereo system.
